Schedule: 2018 – 2020

Abstract: The aim of this project is the development of a new and innovative bio-material through the recovery and reuse of the spent mushroom substrate, in order to be integrated as a component of footwear, enhancing antibacterial and antifungal capacity. The Pleurotus mushrooms and its bioactives compounds have an antimicrobial activity, this being a fundamental characteristic in the footwear sector, being in continuos contact with microorganisms through the environment and the skin. For this reason, one of the key in any shoe manufacturing process is the control of these undesirable effects caused by microorganisms, incorporating, if possible, technological improvements that provide added value.

Results: Ongoing project.
